Cybersecurity Training with MTC Training: Success at the University of Sunderland

Published: 10 March 2025

As the Assistant Security Manager at the University of Sunderland, I oversee the security operations, contract management, and systems development for the university. My role involves ensuring the safety and security of our students, staff, and assets, as well as implementing technological advancements to enhance our security infrastructure.

This was our first time using MTC Training and we selected the Cyber Security courses for our team as they are directly beneficial to their roles. In the security sector, we have a duty to be security-conscious, not only in safeguarding buildings and people but also in protecting the organisation’s data. As part of our responsibilities, we ensure that sensitive data belonging to the university, its staff, and students is safeguarded against cyber threats

The training has equipped our team with the ability to identify security vulnerabilities, assess risks, and implement controls to mitigate threats. The team now has a deeper understanding of cybersecurity threats and the importance of proactive security measures in an organisation. We are now able to respond promptly to security concerns and make informed decisions regarding cyber threats.

The course has positively impacted our security function by increasing awareness and making the team more cyber-security focused. There is now a noticeable shift in culture and behaviour, where security awareness and best practices have become ingrained within our daily operations. The training has helped us improve our internal processes and enhance our resilience against cyber threats.

The application and consultation process for enrolling our team could not have been simpler. MTC provided clear guidance on course availability and the criteria for the Shared Prosperity Fund. My point of contact, Michelle, was extremely helpful—our discussions were straightforward and productive, and there were no issues with enrolment, course information, or joining instructions. The experience has been seamless, and we are grateful for the opportunity to upskill our team through this training. If your organisation is looking to develop specialist knowledge in cybersecurity or ethical hacking, I highly recommend these courses.
