Mental Health Matters

Success Story

In November 2016 MTC Training became an apprenticeship training provider for South Tyneside Council. 10-months on we have a number of learners in many different positions including Sarrah at Mental Health Matters.

Mental Health Matters were keen to add another apprentice to the business after employing 2 of their previous apprentices on a permanent basis. They decided to take on Sarrah as a Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice and so far, they have been impressed with her progression and how she has contributed to the business. We spoke to Neil (Line Manager) about why they chose Sarrah and how she has progressed so far:

“When we interviewed Sarrah we were impressed with her confidence and enthusiasm and felt she would be a good fit for the team. Sarrah settled into the role much sooner than we had envisaged and started using her initiative straight away.”

Sarrah was looking for a new opportunity after already having completed ICT qualifications. We asked Sarrah how she is finding her time at Mental Health Matters and how the experience has helped her:

“MHM are a good employer and provide a relaxed and friendly environment. You are also well supported for training and complete regular reviews/appraisals and there is an in-depth induction programme. There are also opportunities to develop your career in other areas of the business.

Since commencing the apprenticeship, I have gained knowledge/understanding of business markets, sales and marketing, employee rights and responsibilities, how to take minutes of meetings and organise events. I have also used my IT skills to develop the on-learning platform and designed training modules for staff/clients and spreadsheets.”

As is shown here by Sarrah and Mental Health Matters, apprenticeships provide value for both the employer and learner alike. When speaking to both Sarrah and Neil from Mental Health Matters they both spoke highly of the apprenticeship scheme:

Sarrah – “The apprenticeship programme is a good opportunity to gain qualifications and experience, whilst earning a wage. This has been an excellent route for me as it is more hands on.

I would recommend apprenticeships with MTC Training to anyone wishing to gain further qualifications/experience.”

Neil – “The apprentices bring with them an eagerness to learn and an enthusiasm that spreads throughout the team. We were keen to be able to help develop the skills of an apprentice and help them on their career path.

We would recommend the apprentice scheme to any organisation looking to expand. The introduction of the role to the team has allowed other staff to focus on important projects and offers an opportunity to invest in the future workforce.”
